When you don't have classes during the week....

This is just going to be a quick post before I do some reading for my Mexican Literature class tomorrow and then bed. Yesterday, my roommate Vaneshia and I hung out pretty much the whole day because she didn't have to teach and I didn't have classes. We went to the school so that I could get that library book I need for my class tomorrow and then we went to the little cafe on campus and she bought a mango smoothie and a giant chocolate muffin which we shared (The school she teaches at gives her a certain number of pesos each day so she wanted to use them). I also turned in my passport and FMM form copies to the immigration lawyer. But before all this, in the beginning of the afternoon we watched Toy Story in Spanish on netflix. Now fast forwarding to when we are back at the school after we ate that yummy muffin. We started talking to some of the international students sitting by us. Here, you can just tell who is international and who isn't. We met one girl from Kansas and she was saying all her classes are in Spanish like mine, but she only took one semester of Spanish before coming here! After hearing that, I was humbled and realized that there are other students here who may have it harder than I do in the classes. After our conversation, we left and started walking back. We decided we wanted to see a movie at the movie theater since it was Wednesday and Wednesday are cheap movie days. One movie ticket was only 28 pesos! which is about $2.11. I was so so shocked at how cheap it was!!!!! And of course we got popcorn too and that was only $3.39 for a large popcorn. It was wonderful. We saw the movie Frozen because we both heard it was good and we wanted to see something. Thankfully, it was easy to understand and we were able to comprehend all that was going on in the movie.

Standing on the walking bridge by the Cinemark. We were trying to get all the lights of the city in the background, but it didn't work out too well.

Today Vaneshia and I didn't have any classes or teaching again so we spent the day together with Laura. She took us on the bus to el centro and we walked around and Laura showed us different things that I didn't see the first time I went there. She showed us where she went to school when she was in elementary school and all of that kind of stuff. Then she bought us this sugary coconut type of candy which was of course very good. Then after all this, she was going to go back home so she got on one bus and we got on another. Vaneshia and I thought we were on the right bus until it passed the road to the school which was where we were headed to get some copies from homework etc. We were both so confused and didn't know where we were headed so we just stayed on hoping it would go past the school again but it didn't. eventually, Vaneshia went up to the bus driver and asked where we were going and if we were going back in the direction of the school or at least to Plaza del Parque, which is a plaza with a bunch of stores and a mall near our house. He said we would reach Plaza del Parque in 20 minutes, so we just stood on the bus and went for a long ride. Those buses get so packed so quickly! Not to mention, the bus drivers show no mercy. As soon as you get on you give the driver your coin and as he's taking your money and giving people their change, he has already started driving again. There are also a lot of speed bumps in every road - high way included - and the bus drivers slow down just enough so it's smooth for them and a real bumpy ride for those sitting in the back. When you're on the bus and you are standing, you have to hang on tight to the little holding bar things or else you will be falling all over the place. When we finally reached Plaza del Parque, we had to walk all the way back to the school which we already passed once. Thankfully it's only like a 20 minute walk from there. Once we got there, I got my copies I needed of the homework and Vaneshia and I bought some food. I bought a delicious mango smoothie and a bagel sandwich type of thing and Vaneshia bought a torta. We were also going to go to a party tonight that was being held at some place we didn't know where it was located by our school or something like that and we needed to buy tickets for that which were being sold at the school, so that was our main reason for going. Then after our bus fiasco, we decided we didn't want to go just the 2 of us to an unknown and unfamiliar place at night and we were already tired from walking all day, so we just decided to come home. So then we arrived home and Laura made us some type of veggie, pasta, spicy soup and a type of homemade taquito. It was all very good. Instead of going to the party, we were going to watch a movie or something but we were both so tired, so I sat in my bed and started working on my taxes, which I have now completed and skyped my parents. And that brings me to now, and it's getting late and I still need to read for tomorrow.
Hasta luego!
