A lot has happened in the last 2 days, I went to an AMI party (amigos mexicanos internacionales) and today I went to el centro. First I am going to talk about the party. Beforehand, I walked to the school, and I actually timed myself this time and it took about 35 minutes which is excellent! I met up with my friend Judith who is from Chile and then we met up with Andrea who is from Italy and walked to Judith's apartment where we met her roommates Matteo (from Germany) and Nilton (from Brazil). Then we waited for a while, and a bunch of Nilton's Brazilian friends came over and then we all went on the roof because that's what you do here in Mexico; people go on the roof. So we took pictures up there and then Matteo's German friends came over and we took more pictures. Then we finally left from the AMI party at a guy named Arturo's house. This house was located in probably one of the wealthiest places in Querétaro. It was gated and there were security guards and everything. Once we got there we had pizza and just hung out and there was music playing. A lot of international students showed up. Students from France, Finland, Spain, Italy, Germany, Brazil, the U.S, Australia, Quebec. That's all I can remember at this time, but I'm sure more countries were represented. And of course people in Mexico love to dance so there was salsa music playing for a long time, and something I appreciated was that people from other countries actually know legit dances like salsa, tango, etc. And it was cool seeing the Mexicans and Brazilians for example, teaching the Americans and Germans how to salsa. Later on, we started a trend of playing a dance type of song from each country so there was salsa dancing of course, then some type of Brazilian dance that looked complicated, a french dance where everyone was in a circle, a German dance that talked about a lasso and included a conga line, and lastly, since the U.S. doesn't have any cool dances like that, we taught them the wobble, the dougie, and the cha cha slide. They seemed to really like it which was good!
Today, I went to el centro with 3 friends. 2 from the US and 1 from Germany. It was really fun seeing everything in el centro and there were a bunch of stores and little carts with things for sale and beautiful buildings and plazas. I did manage to buy some post cards too! Then we took this trolly type of thing around the city and we were able to see many things in Queretaro, which you will see in the pictures that I post shortly. After this little excursion, we ate at a cute little cafe type of restaurant and it was a 3 course meal for only 75 pesos! I had salad, a veggie chicken type of soup, and enchiladas verdes. It was really good. Then we took the bus back to the school and from there went out separate ways with taxis.
Tomorrow is the first day of school for most people, but I don't have classes tomorrow, however, I'm going to the school to exchange more money and get things done like joining the AMI group officially, finding where my classes are, and joining cultural activity classes which are completely free here! I might join a salsa dancing class or a type of fitness class.
That's all for now!
Hasta luego!
