My french toast concoction I made. It was so good. French toast is like my comfort food that I turn to when I don't want a stinkin tortilla. I swear, by the time, I'm out of here I probably won't want to eat another tortilla for the rest of the summer. You literally eat them at lunch and dinner every day, sometimes even breakfast.
First day of rain since January! It was so nice to see a grey sky and not see the sun. The sun makes people happy, don't get me wrong, but there's something about rain that calms the soul. And it was right after I got back from working out and salsa class so I was already tired and ready to just relax. Nothing beats having a window open and hearing the rain while sitting on your bed and writing an essay about trains and Art Nouveau.
I've been doing pretty well for the most part. It's hard to believe that it is already March! That means only a little over 11 weeks until I'm out of here! My time here has had ups and downs of course, but I'm thankful that I do have a few friends that I can turn to and confide in. That has made it a lot easier. My classes are going well, tutoring is going well, and I'm managing to keep my grades up! :)
This past weekend I spent all of Friday night, Saturday and Sunday and even a lot of Monday at home watching netflix. It was nice to relax in my room and just be alone, but one can only be alone for so long until you start to go crazy and need some human interaction. I've enjoyed quite a few different movies and some television shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire and Arthur. Arthur is a classic.
Oh, something I forgot to mention is that in salsa class we are now learning different dips. Ugh, the joys of being a female. It's scary, let me tell you. You really gotta trust your partner and that he won't drop you or let you fall while doing a dip. I just so happen to have gotten paired with the american boy in my class. WHY!? He's nice and he's also in my Mexican Literature class, but I don't fully trust him as a dancing partner. why, you ask? Because he almost dropped me! I don't know if he doesn't have good balance or what, but thank goodness I was able to catch myself before I hit the hard wooden floor. I told Laura this story and she laughed and said, "tiene dos pies izquierdos!" (he has two left feet). I couldn't help but laugh at that. Thankfully he only almost dropped me once, and hopefully it doesn't happen again. I just hope the dips don't get more complicated, but unfortunately, I have a feeling that they will. As long as I don't land on my head, I should be fine. I hope I can get dipped by someone other than this American boy in my class next class. When we dance with different partners, you definitely learn and remember who your favorite dancing partners are because of their rhythm and if they are good leaders. I have danced with one of the instructors - Enrique, and of course he is my favorite dancing partner because he actually knows what he's doing and is an excellent leader!
Besides the joys of salsa class, I have been wanting to make more friends, natives especially to practice my spanish. I just don't know how to exactly. Sometimes it feels like people already have their group of friends and aren't interested in making new friends with foreigners. Hopefully I can make new friends soon though! Thankfully, when I was talking to my friend Judith (from Chile) about this, she said that she sometimes feels this way too, and she invited me to sleep over at her apartment tomorrow night. I don't have any classes on Wednesday and the only thing I have to do on Thursday is go to salsa class and tutoring. So we are going to spend Wednesday night and Thursday together in between my salsa class and her swimming class. I'm excited because she is so so kind and sweet and a native Spanish speaker which is exactly what I need! :) Not to mention she lives with 2 other international students from Germany and Brazil, so we will all be able to hang out for a little bit and speak in Spanish together!
Lastly, on Friday there is a Neon party. I didn't know what that was at first, but then I learned that you obviously have to wear a neon colored shirt, and then we are going to this club and there is obviously dancing and then paint is sprayed everywhere? Or something like that. It sounds like fun, and I want to do something fun, so I think I will go, and I have a neon shirt that I brought along too! I knew I packed that tacky neon green study abroad shirt for something! Now I will be able to put it into use and it will never be the same one color again. :)
Hasta Luego!
I'm DROOLING over your french toast photos... yum yum yum. Sounds so tasty! Your thoughts on tortillas are exactly mine on tea here in Britain- still love it, though ;) Miss you so much Leah!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat french toast pics!! I love our discussions about Arthur....I can't wait to watch it with you when you come back. Also, I love that the dance instructor's name is Enrique. I just think that is so great. I'm glad things are going well. It sounds like a lot is going on, but I'm glad you're able to relax as well. And I agree with you on the rain- sun is good, but sometimes a rainy day is exactly what you need. Love you!
