Yesterday I went to a city called Guanajuato with my two friends - Leslie and Nikki. It was so much fun! I loved that city! It was bigger than San Miguel, but smaller than Mexico City, so it was like the perfect size! I'm really glad that I went and it was only like 2.5 hours away or so. We did a lot of things while we were there. Of course we did a ton of sight seeing which was really fun and went on a little bus tour. I'm uploading the pictures for it as we speak.
On Friday, I went to Chilies with my friends Brea and Jaimie and that was really good. I got a giant buffalo chicken salad and we split mozzarella sticks. They were so good. It was like a little taste of America.
In my psychology class, my real professor has returned - She had a baby in December or January so we've had a substitute professor this whole time. She seems really nice and I have already introduced myself to her so she knows that I'm an international student and such.
I'm getting really excited for Spring break A.K.A. Semana Santa, because I'll be going to Islas Mujeres near Cancun with 2 great friends and I'll hopefully get to swim with dolphins and do a whole bunch of fun activities that I can't do here! :) I'll keep you updated on that.
Also, I have officially moved out of my host mom's house. I was having some difficulties living there and it wasn't a good environment for me to be in, so today I packed up my things and left and am staying with my tutor Marisol for the time being. I am going to try to move in with a new host family soon and will be talking to the coordinator tomorrow about that.
Some things I have been learning as of recently is to be more accepting of things and traditions that are different than my own and not to view them as wrong. Like wearing shoes inside the house, it's not something I enjoy, but that is a tradition here and just because I don't like it, it doesn't mean that it's wrong. I'm glad that I'm realizing this because the last thing I want to do is fulfill the stereotype that Americans are ignorant. Something I am getting used to is eating a small dinner like cereal and things like that, which I don't mind because I really enjoy eating cereal here since it is usually so warm outside. Something fun I learned how to do today was how to do my laundry the way Mexicans do it. I washed my clothes at Marisol's house and the washer is outside. I had to fill the washer with water from a hose and put this biodegradable soap in it, and then I had to hang my clothes up on a line outside. It's very common to do laundry this way, especially the hanging the clothes outside on a line thing. It rarely rains here and is always hot and sunny, so I guess there is no reason for a dryer. And the clothes dry really fast this way too! I don't always appreciate my underwear and bras hanging outside for the whole world to see, but thank goodness the laundry line here is behind the house, so only the neighbors can see. haha.
Hasta luego!
Cute little restaurant where we ate. The food was so good!
Enchiladas mineras - one of my favorite meals thus far!
one of the 4 prettiest theaters in the world apparently. It was cool from the outside. We weren't able to go inside though.
Sorry girls! I wanted to take a picture of the never ending stairs
Hacienda del Cochero is a museum located in the beautiful city of Mexico, Guanajuato. A 17th century place used to torture people at the time of Inquisition is restored and open for visitors to understand those tough times. This museum has torture instruments used in the inquisition time. This place also has a cemetery. (Hence the next few pictures)

SO GOOD! This is what Marisol and I ate for lunch today. We basically put the stuff that was in this bowl in tortillas like fajitas/tacos. Really good. and so much food too!
Had to document this coke bottle since I never drink pop, but I did today and it was really good! I also liked the bottle so had to take a picture of it.
Hey Leah Bee! I didn't know you were moving out of your host mom's house. But wherever you end up, I hope it's a better experience.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to swim with dolphins on your spring break! I have always wanted to do that. I almost did once, but it didn't happen :( that would be amazing!! It will be a great week for you to relax and go swimming!
Awesome pictures. I love the ones of the mine! That looks really cool.
I am glad you're experiencing a different culture. Maybe God is expanding your horizons and giving you a chance to see how other people live and how other cultures do things differently than we do. You're right, it's doesn't mean one way is wrong; it's just different. And different is good!
I can't believe you've been gone for over 2 months!!! I know that God is doing big things. Maybe you can't see it now, but He's got something cooking. He brought you to Mexico for a reason, and I think you're going to learn a lot. It sounds like you already are! I am so proud of you for going to Mexico and going out of your comfort zone, and meeting all kinds of new people! You just never know what God is going to do and who He is going to bring your way.
I love you. I am praying for you. God loves you too!! :)
You take the best photos! I love it! Well, with the exception of the human remains one... um, gross. I'm so enjoying reading about what you're learning and the new perspectives you're gaining, my little world traveler!
